Lanka to hold World Buddhist Conference

The Government and the World Buddhist Congress Headquarters will hold the 60th anniversary conference of the World Buddhist Congress in Sri Lanka from November 13 to 17, 2010. The All Ceylon Buddhist Congress will coordinate the conference an All Ceylon Buddhist Congress spokesman told the Daily News.

Encyclopaedia of Buddhism Vol. 1, edited by G. P. Malalasekera O.B.E in 1965, published by Government of Sri Lanka, clearly states that an Englishman named Charles Henry Allan Bennet, who had been ordained as a Buddhist monk in Burma in 1902, returned back to England, eighty nine years ago, to establish the first ever Buddhist Mission in the United Kingdom on 16 July 1908, ‘a belief shared twenty-three years later by the Anagarika Dharmapala when he came to England on a mission from Ceylon.

Taipei, Taiwan — Addressing a grand prayer congregation for world peace and religious harmony held on the New Year eve in Taipei, Tibet’s spiritual leader His Holiness the 14th Dalai Lama’s Representative to Taiwan has underscored the importance of religious harmony among different religions of the world.
